Destination Guide

Indonesia

The world's largest Muslim-majority country — from Bali's rice terraces to Lombok's pristine beaches, with halal-friendly travel throughout.

Overview

Why visit Indonesia

Indonesia is the world's largest Muslim-majority country and home to some of the most stunning natural landscapes on earth. The archipelago spans over 17,000 islands, each with its own character and charm.

Bali draws millions of visitors every year with its rice terraces, temples and vibrant culture. Next door, Lombok offers pristine beaches and a more traditional Muslim atmosphere. Jakarta, the capital, is a modern metropolis with world-class halal dining. Beyond the main tourist trail, Indonesia offers volcanoes, rainforests, coral reefs and ancient cultures.

For Muslim travellers, Indonesia offers a unique blend — the natural beauty and cultural richness that draws visitors worldwide, combined with the world's largest Muslim population and increasingly developed halal travel infrastructure. With the right planning, it's an extraordinary destination.

Halal travel in Indonesia

Halal Food

As the world's largest Muslim country, halal food is widely available throughout Indonesia. In Java, Lombok and Sumatra, almost all food is halal by default. In Bali (Hindu-majority), halal restaurants exist but require more planning — we identify and verify them for every tour.

Prayer Facilities

Mosques are found across Indonesia. In Muslim-majority areas (everywhere except Bali), mosques are on virtually every street. In Bali, mosques exist in major towns and tourist areas. We provide mosque location maps for every destination.

Accommodation

Muslim-friendly hotels and villas are increasingly common. In Lombok, this is the default. In Bali, select properties cater specifically to Muslim travellers with halal kitchens and prayer facilities. We vet every property.

Activities & Culture

Indonesia offers incredible diversity. Cultural experiences, nature activities, diving, surfing and trekking are all available. In Bali, some temple visits are observation-only for Muslim visitors. We plan itineraries with cultural sensitivity in mind.

FAQ

Travelling to Indonesia

Visas, timing, currency and safety — the practical questions travellers ask us before booking Indonesia. Anything else, just ask.

Is Bali suitable for Muslim travellers?

Yes, with planning. Bali is Hindu-majority, so halal food requires more research than other parts of Indonesia. We handle all halal arrangements. Lombok next door is Muslim-majority and extremely easy for Muslim travellers.

Do I need a visa for Indonesia?

Many nationalities can purchase a Visa on Arrival (VOA) for 30 days. Some nationalities get visa-free entry. Check requirements based on your passport.

What is the best time to visit Bali and Lombok?

The dry season (April to October) is the best time. July and August are peak tourist season. The wet season (November to March) brings afternoon showers but is still warm.

Is Indonesia safe?

Yes. Bali, Lombok and Java are safe for tourists. Normal travel precautions apply. Our local team provides 24/7 support during your trip.

What currency does Indonesia use?

The Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). ATMs are widely available. Credit cards accepted in hotels and larger restaurants.
