Destination Guide

Kazakhstan

Central Asia's largest country — vast steppes, modern cities, mountain wilderness and a welcoming Muslim-majority culture.

Overview

Why visit Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is the ninth-largest country in the world and Central Asia's economic powerhouse. It offers a dramatic contrast between ultra-modern cities and vast, untouched wilderness — snow-capped mountains, endless steppes, crystal-clear lakes, and dramatic canyons.

Almaty, the largest city, sits at the foot of the Tien Shan mountains and offers world-class dining, vibrant markets, and easy access to stunning alpine scenery. Nur-Sultan (Astana), the capital, is a showcase of futuristic architecture in the middle of the steppe.

Kazakhstan is a Muslim-majority country with a moderate, welcoming culture. Halal food is widely available, mosques are in every city, and the hospitality of the Kazakh people is legendary. For travellers seeking something different — big landscapes, nomadic culture and genuine adventure — Kazakhstan delivers.

Halal travel in Kazakhstan

Halal Food

Kazakhstan is Muslim-majority and halal food is widely available, especially traditional Kazakh cuisine (beshbarmak, horse meat, mutton dishes). In Almaty and Nur-Sultan, halal restaurants are plentiful. International cuisine with halal options is available in major cities.

Prayer Facilities

Mosques are found in all cities and towns. The Central Mosque in Almaty and the Hazrat Sultan Mosque in Nur-Sultan are particularly impressive. Prayer rooms are available in major shopping centres and airports.

Accommodation

International hotel chains and local hotels are available in major cities. Halal food is available in most hotel restaurants. In rural areas and yurt stays, food is typically halal by default as it's traditional Kazakh cuisine.

Nature & Adventure

Kazakhstan's main draw is its natural beauty — Big Almaty Lake, Charyn Canyon, the Altai Mountains, and the vast steppe. Adventure activities include hiking, horse riding, and eagle hunting demonstrations. All activities are suitable for Muslim travellers.
